Western Heritage Art | Beyond the Saddle

Proportions are an illustration. Confirm the listed width × height before ordering.

Beyond the Saddle places the viewer behind a cowboy and chestnut horse on a sloping mountainside. The horse turns its head slightly left, opening a route into a valley between slate-blue peaks and pale sunlit slopes.

Cream clouds echo the angular mountain forms, while dark greens hold the near hillside in shadow. The rearward viewpoint makes the distant landscape feel like a destination still ahead, giving the square scene a reflective Western character.

About the Artist

Meet Rafael Soria

Rafael Soria is interested in the way a horse’s posture can give a whole scene its direction. He works with strong silhouettes, simplified riders, and broad areas of desert color. Ochre, dusty brown, and muted blue help hold the figures within an open landscape. His brushwork follows the movement of the animal, while the surrounding space gives that movement room to travel across the canvas.
